A woman was killed and a 5-year-old bicyclist was flown to a hospital in separate crashes Sunday in Mid-Missouri.

Troopers also arrested a man after a crash involving a UTV.

The crashes were among several reported by the Missouri State Highway Patrol that caused significant injuries or death Sunday.

One woman was killed and a man was hurt after a dune buggy crash Sunday afternoon in Phelps County.

According to the Missouri Highway State Patrol, the crash happened on County Road 1140 at 3:40 p.m. Troopers said 42-year-old Chandra Moffet of St. James, Missouri, was riding in a dune buggy when driver Paul Rice, 49, of Catawissa, Missouri, lost control of the vehicle.

The dune buggy traveled off the side of the road and rolled, throwing Moffet. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Rice was taken to Phelps Health with minor injuries.

The crash report says Moffet was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

A 19-year-old was flown to University Hospital with serious injuries after a crash Sunday night near Crocker, Missouri.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash happened on Highway 133 in Pulaski County just before 9:30 p.m. Christopher Thiltgen of Dixon, Missouri, was driving a pickup when the truck went off the side of the road, hitting a tree and fence before stopping.

The 2010 GMC Sierra was totaled, according to troopers.

Thiltgen was wearing a seatbelt, according to the crash report.

Troopers say a 5-year-old boy suffered moderate injuries in Morgan County when a 16-year-old hit the younger child's bicycle. The crash happened on P Road in the Gravois Mills area at about 5 p.m. The 5-year-old was flown to University Hospital, the patrol reported.

One woman was hurt after a crash Sunday between a car and a UTV in Miller County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol said the crash happened at 7:19 p.m. at Route U and Kinderhook County Road.

The crash report states that 23-year-old Carter Halley of Brumley, Missouri, was trying to turn onto Kinderhook County Road on a UTV when he was hit by a car driven by 26-year-old Taylor Gardner of Edgar Springs, Missouri.

Gardner tried to avoid hitting Halley but couldn’t, sending the UTV airborne and throwing Halley from the vehicle, according to the report. The UTV landed in a ditch.

Troopers arrested Halley on suspicion of felony DWI, failure to yield, driving a UTV on a highway and not wearing a seatbelt, according to a highway patrol arrest report.

Gardner was taken by ambulance to Lake Regional Hospital in Osage Beach with serious injuries.

Troopers reported that Gardner was not wearing a seat belt.

Halley suffered serious injuries and was flown to University Hospital in Columbia. A highway patrol crash report initially said Halley was not hurt.

He was in fair condition Monday afternoon, an MU Health Care spokesperson said.
