Sep 02, 2023Driver without licence accidentally crashes SUV into motorcyclist in Melaka
MELAKA: Another incident of accidental acceleration emerged in Melaka, in less than 24 hours after a 16-year-old inadvertently reversed a car into an eatery.
The fresh case occurred at 10.40am on Sunday (Aug 27) when a 25-year-old driver without a valid driving licence accidentally accelerated a sport utility vehicle (SUV) hitting and injuring a motorcyclist.
Melaka Tengah OCPD Asst Comm Christopher Patit said the accident happened at Taman Melaka Raya when the SUV driver from Jalan Imbi, Kuala Lumpur claimed that he tried to avoid the 29-year-old motorcyclist while he was driving out from a lane adjourning to the main road.
He said the motorcyclist was riding on the main road and was rammed by the driver of the SUV before the vehicle came to a halt at the entrance of a business premise along the street.
ACP Christopher Patit said luckily the motorcyclist from Kampung Paya Ikan here sustained minor bodily injuries.
“The driver had allegedly pressed his vehicle’s accelerator pedal when trying to avoid the oncoming motorcyclist before ramming into the latter and almost crashing into the shop,”he said.
In the earlier incident at 2.43pm on Saturday (Aug 26), the teenager had reversed his vehicle before crashing into an eatery in Tanjung Kling, Pantai Puteri here.
There were 13 customers at the time of the incident and all have received medical treatment.
The teenager was told by his 51-year-old mother to warm up the vehicle’s engine but he ended up ploughing the car into the eatery.
